Below, I’ll walk you through setting up a simple brew station, brewing your first cup, and some gear recommendations that make the process easy, fun, and delicious.

Keep in mind a stovetop kettle, mason jar and thermometer can work well enough for making coffee. Heck, even a regular coffee machine could make decent coffee- it's just limited by the temperature of water it produces, and the rate it dispense water on the coffee grounds. I like doing things manual because I have a lot more control over the outcome of the cup.

Your First Brew Workflow

Here’s a simple, reliable brew method 

Recommended Pour Over Recipe (V60)

  • Coffee: 20 g

  • Water: 320 g

  • Ratio: 1:16

  • Water temperature: 94 °C

  • Water type: Soft, filtered water (I use a 50/50 mix of distilled and filtered tap water — huge difference in clarity & sweetness!)

Step-by-Step

  1. Bloom: Pour 60 g of water evenly over the coffee bed. Wait 45 seconds.

  2. 2nd Pour: Slowly pour 100 g of water into the center, keeping the water level no more than 1 inch above the coffee bed.

  3. 3rd Pour: Repeat with the remaining water (total 320 g), pouring slowly in the center.

  • Total brew time: ~2:45–3:30
